Enterprise interviews are not conversations

Enterprise interviews are not conversations. They are audits.

You are not being judged on how well you come across.

You are being judged on whether you can run a seven figure territory without supervision.

I have interviewed over 100 AE’s.

Most candidates prepare stories.

Revenue leaders look for operating systems.

When you say, “I worked really hard.” “I built strong relationships.” “I pushed the deal over the line.”

What they hear is: “There is no model behind this.”

Enterprise AEs who get hired speak differently.

They speak in scope and math. They speak in ownership.

They can answer, without hesitation:

What was your annual quota?

What percent did you hit over the last three years?

What was your average deal size?

What was your largest deal?

What was the split between new logo and expansion?

If your numbers are fuzzy, your ownership was fuzzy.

They can explain how they selected accounts before they built pipeline.

How they segmented territory.

How they built coverage ratios before the quarter started.

Because in enterprise sales, if the plan comes after the pipeline, you are already behind.

They can walk through a multi stakeholder deal and show:

Economic buyer identified. Champion built and tested. Technical validation handled early. Legal and security engaged before procurement panic.

No drama. Just sequencing.

They know their commit logic. They know their average variance.

They know exactly where risk sits in the timeline.

And when they talk about a lost deal, there is no emotion.

Only diagnosis.

Most people walk into enterprise interviews hoping to sound impressive.

The strongest candidates walk in expecting to be inspected.

They prepare like operators, not applicants.

The cheat sheet in this post is not a script.

It is the minimum standard for running complex revenue.

If you want to pressure test yourself properly, I built a B2B Technology Sales Interview Simulator that runs you through sales interview scenarios and pushes on weak spots:

In your last enterprise interview, if someone stopped you mid answer and said,

“Walk me through how you actually run this.”

Would you have a clear answer?
